- other · 2021-08-22 — Tripadvisor review (stay July 2021) from a repeat guest alleging that since the sale of Frontier Town the campground has gone downhill - kids racing golf carts, an overcrowded pool and slides - and that the cost to book the following year had risen to $275.00 a night, described as almost a 100% increase. A second Aug 2021 review alleges nickel-and-dime practices: a $12 per night fee for each additional family member staying, an early check-in fee, and a $25 fee to lock in a site. FLAG on timing: reviewers attribute the decline to a sale/new management around 2021-2022, while Sun's SEC schedule records Sun ownership of Frontier Town since 2015, so the perceived change may reflect the Sun Outdoors rebranding or a management change rather than the acquisition itself. Themes: fees, rent, management, amenities - other · 2026-06 — Tripadvisor review of a June 2026 visit by a family that has visited since the 1960s: the reviewer calls the campground nearly unaffordable at $90 for a primitive tent site with no water or electricity (comparing $60 at a sister property and $20 at Assateague Island), and alleges the Western theme park has fallen into obvious disrepair under the new management, with the stagecoach and train-robbery rides, the paddle boat and gold panning all removed and train tracks overgrown. Themes: fees, amenities, maintenance - other · 2026-05-27 — Yelp review dated May 27, 2026 (site AA19, stay May 22-25): a guest who rented a park camper alleges it was in poor condition - a soft floor, a couch falling apart with a cover that kept coming off, a ripped awning, non-working lights, a rusted grill, a broken electrical outlet and a broken kitchen table - and that a rented golf cart would not charge, with a cart-stand employee reacting with attitude when they exchanged it. The reviewer says they spent over $1,300 plus a site lock fee, were told a $300 refund check would be sent, and were still waiting on corporate at the time of the review. Original source
Themes: maintenance, management, fees - other — The Dyrt's review roundup for Frontier Town (8428 Stephen Decatur Hwy) notes pricing runs high for the area, with some stays reaching $500 for a long weekend with basic hookups, sites packed closely together, and significant guest complaints about early-morning trash collection around 5-6 AM; bath houses and staff also draw praise. Themes: fees, management, amenities - other — Review snippets for Frontier Town include a guest complaint about a $20 cancellation fee charged just to change dates and about a lock-in fee to keep the site a deposit was already paid on, which the reviewer calls a racket to extract more money from senior campers; other reviewers in the set are strongly positive about staff and the festival shuttle service.
