What residents say elsewhere
Collected from public sources, summarized and attributed, with links to the originals. Summaries describe what reviewers and reporters say; allegations are not findings.
- other — Tripadvisor review of this resort (1511 Townfield Dr, the former Cherrystone - a separate property from the Chesapeake Bay KOA on Lankford Hwy): the guest alleges the visitor fee is $15 in summer and $12 off-season but that arriving at 8pm in the rain they were charged $40 without being told in advance, and alleges the welcome-center manager and a supervisor talked over them and were more focused on headcount than the complaint, which they describe as futile to raise. Original source
Themes: fees, management - other — Tripadvisor review after a six-night stay: the guest alleges the bathhouses were filthy and appeared uncleaned (mud and discarded clothing on the floor well after posted cleaning time, nearly all soap dispensers broken), that the pool was dirty with its return jets off, that snack-bar staff refused to prepare food that had been rung up, and that security staff were heavy-handed; they say most campers around them said they would not return, and that they cancelled their remaining reservations for the year and the following year. Themes: maintenance, amenities, management - other · 3.5 (324 reviews) — Tripadvisor listing page (address confirmed as 1511 Townfield Dr) shows 3.5 across 324 reviews. One detailed review on the page alleges a cottage rented at about $1,000/week was in disrepair - bedroom door off its hinges, a faucet handle broken off, a leaking under-sink water heater, air conditioning unable to cool below 80 degrees, and repeated power losses at a second family cottage with a newborn - and says major renovations are called for. Original source
Themes: maintenance, fees, management - other · 2013 — FLAG - predates Sun's 2021 acquisition (the property was then Cherrystone Family Camping Resort): a Tripadvisor review from roughly 2013 describes a dirty rustic cabin backing onto a drainage ditch, a splash-pad floor with apparent mold growth, and cloudy pool water. Included only to mark the pre-Sun baseline; not charged to Sun. Original source
Themes: maintenance - other — Forest River Forums thread on seasonal-site pricing at this resort: a seasonal camper posted that the new seasonal price was $5,650 and that another increase would push them to find a new spot. FLAG: the post is undated in the search result and the thread spans the park's Cherrystone era as well as the Sun era (Sun acquired and rebranded the resort in 2021), so the figure should be verified before republication.
